Description

We are very lucky to have two resident Bald Eagles on Rosen Lake, B.C., Canada. They often wait in the trees near our property, scanning the water for the fish that frequent the shallower water. I have spent countless hours with my camera and heavy lens trained on the magnificent birds, shoulders aching, hands going numb, before I am rewarded with a dive into the lake. However, on this day, the eagle was swooping in and out of the trees and down towards the water with only seconds spent perched on the branches of a tree in between attempts. I grabbed my camera just as it made its final dive and came up with its prey. It happened so fast that I wasn't even sure I had managed to get the eagle in focus until I downloaded the photo onto my computer. I was pleased to find that even the water droplets dripping off the bird and fish were crisp and clear. There is nothing more pleasing to me as a wildlife photographer than capturing a bird in flight.
